Rekha K. Murthy, M.D., is director, Hospital Epidemiology Department, Division of Infectious Diseases, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Murthy is also a professor of clinical medicine at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) David Geffen School of Medicine.
Dr. Murthy’s research interests include the prevention of hospital acquired infections and multidrug resistant organism control, as well as antimicrobial utilization.
Dr. Murthy has served as chair of the Infection Control Committee and the Antibiotic Use Review Committee at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and co-chair of the Quality Council Multidrug Resistant Organism (MDRO) Prevention Task Force, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She is a member of numerous professional societies, including the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Murthy has been an invited lecturer on the topic of infectious diseases, as well as an author of book chapters, peer-reviewed research papers, and abstracts.
Dr. Murthy received her medical degree at Queen’s University School of Medicine, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. She completed internship and residency programs in internal medicine at Queen’s University School of Medicine and Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. Dr. Murthy performed clinical and research fellowships in infectious diseases at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, and the UCLA, San Fernando Valley Program.
