Initially the purpose of opening the hospital was to avoid the hardship and cost of sending Saudi Arabia citizens for treatment abroad and to serve the royal family and VIPs.  Today the hospital has 936 beds following the American standards with different hospital services being accredited by American Accreditation agencies (8 accreditations) and JCIA is one of the eight accreditations.
